Who we are
Domshift is a Chrome extension that extracts the structure and styling of a webpage section you select, so you can reuse it as context for your own work. This website, https://domshift.app, is its home page.
Domshift is operated by Domshift, an independent software project established in the European Union. For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your data, write to contact form. We are the data controller for everything described below.
What the extension does with the pages you visit
This is the part most people want answered first, so it comes before everything else.
Domshift is a local-only tool. Everything it reads from a page is processed in your own browser and stays there. No page content, markup, styling or URL is ever sent to us, to anyone else, or to any server — there is no server involved in extraction at all.
- Domshift reads a page only when you actively select a section on it. It does not run in the background across your browsing, and it does not build a history of the sites you visit.
- What it extracts — the HTML, the computed CSS, the colours, the fonts and the spacing of the section you picked — is handed straight to you, and we never receive a copy of it.
- We do not collect your browsing history, page contents, form inputs, keystrokes, credentials or any personal information from the pages you use Domshift on.
- We do not sell data, and we do not use anything collected here for advertising or to train machine-learning models.
The extension asks for broad site access because it has to be able to read whichever page you point it at — that permission is what makes selection work, not a licence to watch you browse.
What this website collects
Four things, each tied to something you chose to do. Nothing here is gathered silently in the background except the last item.
Waitlist signup
Your email address, which form on the page you used, the referring URL, your browser's user-agent string and the time you signed up. We use it to email you about the beta and to understand where signups come from. The lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form.
Contact messages
Your email address, the message you wrote, the referring URL and your user-agent string. We use it to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us.
Uninstall feedback
The reason you picked, an optional message, an optional email address, the extension version and your user-agent string. Leaving the email blank keeps it anonymous, and most submissions are. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving the product.
Analytics, only if you accept
Google Analytics 4 measures page views, referral sources and which buttons get clicked. It loads only after you press Accept on the cookie banner — decline, and no analytics script runs and no analytics cookie is set. The lawful basis is your consent.
One thing collected automatically
Every form submission is rate-limited by IP address to stop automated abuse. That address is held in the server's memory for ten minutes and then discarded. It is never written to our database and is never linked to your email address. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service available.
We do not collect payment details, because Domshift does not currently charge for anything.
Cookies
Domshift sets no cookies of its own, and no advertising or tracking cookies whatsoever.
- Your cookie choiceis stored in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. It never leaves your device.
- Google Analytics cookies (
_gaand_ga_*) are set only after you accept. They are used to tell repeat visits apart and expire after two years.
You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Declining after having accepted also deletes the analytics cookies already on your device.
Where your data is held
Our providers may store and process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the contractual safeguards those providers offer — typically the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist addresses — until Domshift leaves beta, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Contact messages — 24 months from the date of your message.
- Uninstall feedback — 24 months, and it is never linked to a profile.
- Analytics — retained by Google for the period set on our property, and never joined to anything that identifies you here.
A deletion request overrides all of the above. Ask, and it goes.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, the UK, or anywhere with comparable law, you have the right to:
- Access — ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Rectification — have anything inaccurate corrected.
- Erasure — have it deleted.
- Portability — receive it in a machine-readable form.
- Objection and restriction — object to processing we base on legitimate interest.
- Withdrawal of consent — at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
How to exercise them
Send a message through the contact form. We will answer within 30 days, and there is no charge. Every marketing email we send also carries a one-click unsubscribe.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We would rather you told us first, but you are not obliged to.
How your data is protected
Everything travels over HTTPS. Our database has row-level security enabled with no public policies, which means no browser-side key can read or write any of these tables — only our server can, using a credential that is never sent to your browser. Forms are rate-limited and carry spam traps.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affected your data, we would notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Children
Domshift is a developer tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
Domshift is early, and this policy will change as the product does. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects what we collect or who processes it, we will email everyone on the waitlist rather than quietly updating the page.
